Physiotherapists for private treatment in Kendal, Cumbria and Lancashire
Kerry Singleton
I qualified from the Manchester School of Physiotherapy in 2001.
Shortly after qualifying I commenced a Junior post in the NHS in a hospital near Liverpool. My clinical experiences in this post were varied and challenging, starting with being the sole physiotherapist running 3 care of the elderly wards. A busy time! I also rotated through Respiratory care, Stroke Rehabilitation, Burns and Plastics and Outpatients. I then successfully applied for a senior post covering musculoskeletal services, and went on to gain more experience in working on a plastic surgery ward, followed by seven months running an elective orthopaedic/day surgery ward. This gave me valuable insight into different surgical procedures and post-operative rehabilitation.
For one reason or another I moved back home to the Lake District in 2003, where my next physiotherapy challenge was working at BAE Systems Ltd in Barrow as an Occupational Health Physiotherapist. This was anMark extremely interesting and varied job, incorporating sickness absence management, Fitness for work assessments, functional rehabilitation, DSE and manual handling assessments.
In April 2005 I had a little boy, Finn, who has occupied a lot of my time since!
I started working here at the clinic with Cath in November 2005.
Plans for the future? Well as someone who has always been relatively active, my interest in trying different sports is increasing with age! Challenges so far this year have been trying Ski-ing, surfing and climbing for the first time! I also “like” running, going to the gym, and getting out into the Lakes either on foot or mountain bike.
My interests currently lie with treating hip/pelvis and lower leg problems, having suffered in this area myself, and also this is an area we treat regularly at the clinic in riders, bikers and runners especially. I also enjoy treating people with multiple areas of problems involving more prolonged rehabilitation.
My focus for the year is to try and engage you the patient a little more in taking charge of your own rehabilitation/recovery, and also encouraging people to be more active generally. Sadly for many of the population our lives are increasingly sedentary leading to many different problems with the musculoskeletal system. As the saying goes “if you don’t use it you lose it”!
